It was first identified in late 2019, COVID-19 got its name from the year it came down upon people as the worst nightmare. The disease has shaken the world to its core and has forced us to take drastic steps that go against our lifestyle, and imprisoned us in our own houses. The streets that were normally jammed with vehicles, and the footpaths that were packed with throngs of people are silent and empty due to the menace of COVID-19.

What is Coronavirus

COVID-19 is a deadly disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). This influenza-like virus attacks people with lower immunity systems and other predefined illnesses. The severity of coronavirus can be compared to the Spanish Flu of the early 20th century.

The pandemic that has killed thousands of people and has infected millions of people in its first six months, is the deadly virus COVID-19. First identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, coronavirus has spread rapidly and within a few months, over two hundred countries have been affected by the virus.

How does Coronavirus spread

The reason for coronavirus’s rapid span is that it’s easily contaminable – droplets of the infected’s cough, tear, saliva, etc. can easily carry the virus to others. It can infect people from sneezing, coughing, spitting, etc. The virus can live on hard surfaces like tables, plastic, doors, etc. for hours so, people can be infected by touching the contaminated surfaces, too. Coming into close contact with infected people can also spread the infection to others.

Symptoms of Coronavirus

Symptoms of Coronavirus

Symptoms of coronavirus are very similar to general viruses like seasonal flu, influenza, etc. So, it’s a true struggle to distinguish coronavirus from other ordinary viruses on your own.

One of the main reasons for the struggle to deal with the killer disease is not knowing who is carrying the virus. Numerous cases have shown that people with no apparent symptoms can carry the virus and infect others with it.

Other symptoms that indicate one might have caught the virus are fever, dry cough, body pain, etc., and shortness of breath in extreme cases. Many people have complained that they don’t have any symptoms stated above but they experienced the loss of taste and the loss of smell.

It’s scary to think that people are roaming all over without even knowing that they are carrying the virus because this deadly disease is so deceptive that it can hide in the human body without showing any symptoms at all. So many coronavirus-positive cases don’t show any symptoms at all.

How to stop the rapid speed of Coronavirus?

Coronavirus rapidly spreads itself from one body to another, so the best solution to secure oneself against the virus is to stay in isolation. The virus can live inside the body for around fourteen days. So, the infected person can prevent the virus from spreading by keeping himself isolated from other living beings for about two weeks.

Also, cleanliness can prevent the virus. Washing hands, keeping clothes clean, and drinking lots of warm water can help the virus from taking hold of your body. The virus attacks people with weak immunity systems, so, you can eat vegetables with lots of vitamins A, C, etc. to keep yourself healthy and strong.

And most importantly, wearing a mask can reduce the chance of getting infected by a large degree, since the virus enters the body mainly from your nose and mouth. Also, keeping your hands out of your face will diminish the chance of coronavirus from getting into you.

Apple Company has recently released a new COVID-19 app and website.

Affects of Coronavirus

Coronavirus is not only a health hazard, but it has also affected the lifestyle, economy, education system, and other fields largely since it was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The downward spiral of the economy

The world’s economy has seen a massive downfall as an impact of coronavirus. Since the majority of people are unable to go out, many factories and companies have been shut down temporarily or even, permanently.

People’s demand for certain things has dwindled, so companies are being bankrupted and employees are losing their jobs. It’s being said that it might be as bad as the Great Depression of the 1930s, and it might become worse if the malignant virus isn’t dealt with in time.

The Change in Education System

To stop the contagion of coronavirus, the governments of many countries have decided to shut down schools, colleges, etc., and approached online classes as a temporary replacement for the institutions. Students are concerned as time is ticking and they are unsure of what awaits in their future. The institutions are also struggling with delivering lessons to the student body as online classes are not the same as direct schooling.

The Silver Lining?

Can there be a silver lining when death is taking its toll every day? It seems there is. Although small, the significant change in the situation of global warming is a little relaxing and at the same time an eye-opener. Due to the pandemic, many factories have been closed and vehicles remained idle, so air pollution has taken a seat back. Reports have found that due to this the air has become breathable, which is something notable since it’s the first time such thing happened in the last few decades.

The pandemic has caused us to think about living a little differently, the priorities have changed, and we now have an inkling of the important things in life and how we should preserve them.

Stay Home, Save Lives

Stay Home, Save Lives

Hospitals are being overwhelmed with coronavirus patients, people are panicking. If strong and correct actions are not taken, then this isn’t the worst of coronavirus yet. Staying at home means staying away from others to prevent the spread of the virus. To save your life and to save other lives, staying in quarantine is the best solution until a vaccine is discovered. True heroism lies in being smart enough to save others by saving yourself.
